On leaving Coronation Street in 1999 Adam launched his music career and signed a six album deal. His debut album Good Times sold well across the UK, US and particularly Asia where it went Gold. Adam's debut single "I Breathe Again" reached no 5 in the charts.
What follows are some insights in Adam's own words of his time in the music business
On celebrating his debut single "I Breathe Again" making No 5 I avoided the midweek charts on purpose. Then on Sunday my three brothers came to visit and we listened together. Every number that counted down from 40 we downed a half of beer. I was dead in the water by the time we got to 5
On the apparently naked appearance in the "I Breathe Again" video - I had boxers on for part of it but in some of the camera angles you could see them. The director asked if I'd go starkers for some of the shots and I agreed. I wasn't getting off the floor for anything after that. I dread to think where the off-shoots went. They're probably with one of those When They Were Famous film companies!
On his awards I won the TV Hits Award for Best Male Pop Star, a silver disc for I Breathe Again and a gold disc for "Good Times" but I always hide them away if I'm having people over as I get really embarrassed by the whole thing.
On hearing his music played in clubs I was out with some friends and it started coming out of the speakers. I had to go to the bar because I can't dance to my own records - that would be just cheesy!
On his favourite song from the album I'd have to say "The Best Thing" . It's a lot more clubby and it's got a slightly more mature feel about it.
On why he got out of the business I just figured that even though it was great, it wasn't making me happy. At the end of the day, anything could happen to you tomorrow, so you might as well be as happy as you can today. Luckily I was in a position where I wasn't going to be eating on the street, so I could afford to make that decision."
What next? In 2010 Adam will be returning to the studio to record some new tracks including an exciting remix of I Breathe Again. Watch this space.
